Pulau Jerjak Adventure

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to explore the history sites of Pulau Jerjak....for me it was both fun and exhilarating. Upon arrival at the Jerjak Jetty, we can't help but feel we have gone back in time....the resort's decor was of nature's pure elegance a midst the jungle.

To start our adventure,we were taken for a bicycle ride on a prison trail. The trail was by the sea.The view was just excellent.Along the trail were the ruins of prisons, warden's quarters, a kindergarten, a hall and an administrative block.  As I cycled along the trail, I can't help but feel that there were once life here. The trail gave me a chill and eerie feeling because amongst the ruins is an area where they buried the prisoners that past away there. We were also welcomed by monkeys, water monitor lizard and a nightingale. As we cycled back towards the resort, I was thinking how difficult it must have been for the officers who were stationed on the island back then. With no water, lights and civilization things must have been tough.

After a short break at the resort's lobby, our guide Saddiq took us on the jungle trail. This time I for one was absolutely amazed by the roots and plants in the jungle. The branches look like hanging roots which gave an amazing sight. However since I was so fit (hehe...not so), the steep climb up the hill was a challenge to me. Nonetheless I made it to the top. That trail was called the Razak Trail.

We then start descending down to a remote prison area where they imprison the outlaws there. The trail down towards the area takes us on to the other side of the island and that trail was named the Balqis Trail. The gush of eerie feeling came again. How it must have been like for them to be in a prison with no escape routes. Its like Alcatraz but only this is on the other side of the world!
There are also bunkers which according to our guide, the more dangerous prisoners were kept...he said that place lurks mysteries. I for one am not a big fan of mysteries especially one that deals with the 'supernatural' (huhu..!). The Balqis Trail have us walking right at the beach where we could see the shipyard owned by Boustead.

From there it was a walk on tar road right back to the resort where we pass the hanging bridge and the flying fox. All in all it took us about 1.5 hours from Razak Trail, continued to the Balqis Trail back to the resort. Even though we were tried but it was an experience to remember. I for one am so amaze at what Pulau Jerjak has to offer and the fabulous guide provided by the resort.

There are so many activities available on the island and don't miss that chance to be one with nature. Try it and experience it for yourself!
